National Lampoon launched in April 1970. This is the second issue. The magazine that would go on to define American comedy for a generation — the writers who built SNL, the films that defined the 1970s and 80s — was two months old when this was printed. Peter Max was at the peak of his cultural visibility, his psychedelic style synonymous with the era. The combination is unrepeatable.
