National Lampoon Magazine — October 1975 (Collector's Issue)
The October 1975 issue of National Lampoon announced itself right on the cover: Collector's Issue. And it meant it. This is one of the more visually arresting issues of the mid-run — a janitor hauling a trash can through a surreal scene populated by giant swallowtail butterflies, with the Vaughn Bodé Memorial tucked at the bottom.
Vaughn Bodé, the underground comics legend behind Cheech Wizard, had died earlier that year at 33. His inclusion here was a genuine tribute from a magazine that ran in the same countercultural current. The cover image — mundane labor interrupted by something enormous and beautiful — feels like the right send-off.
Features include Big Tit Contest, Underwear for the Deaf, Pornography for the Dumb, and Cuban Homo Farm — classic Lampoon provocation, delivered with full commitment. Bagged and boarded.
