National Lampoon Magazine — December 1977 (Christmas in December)
The December 1977 "Christmas in December" issue of National Lampoon features a signed Gahan Wilson cover — his name right there in the lower left corner — and it is quintessential Wilson: a grotesque, leering Santa Claus wedged halfway down a chimney, being robbed from above by a rat-like creature while a ghoulish elf picks his pocket from below. Everyone is getting something this Christmas. None of it is good.
Wilson's crosshatched, horror-inflected illustration style was perfectly suited to the Lampoon's holiday issues, and this is one of his finest cover contributions. The cover lines complete the picture: Cholesterol-Free Eggnog, Last-Minute Gift Ideas for That Special Someone, and David Frost Nipping at Your Nose — that last one a masterpiece of seasonal wordplay.
A signed Gahan Wilson cover is a genuine collector's item in its own right. Bagged and boarded, solid condition. Sold as-is.
