National Lampoon Magazine — December 1974 (The Judeo-Christian Tradition / Joy of Sects)
For its December 1974 issue, National Lampoon turned its gaze toward organized religion with "The Judeo-Christian Tradition" — subtitled The Joy of Sects. The cover is a lush, warmly illustrated biblical scene: Mary holding the infant Jesus, Joseph gesturing at a door, a child kneeling nearby. It reads, at first glance, like a devotional painting. Then you notice the Lampoon logo.
The contrast is the joke — and it's a good one. This issue arrived at Christmas, in a year when America was still processing Watergate, Ford's pardon, and the slow unraveling of institutional trust. The Lampoon's religious satire landed with particular weight in that context.
A visually beautiful and culturally pointed issue from the magazine's golden era. Bagged and boarded.
