The July 1978 issue of National Lampoon — the 100th Anniversary Issue. Cover art by Nick Meglin depicts a grotesque, grinning clown with birthday candles erupting from its head, multicolored wax dripping down its face, clutching a balloon reading Happy 100th Anniversary. The image is exuberant and deeply unsettling in equal measure. Inside: Gahan Wilson, Charles Rodriguez, Sam Gross, Chris Miller, and Ed Subitzky. Plus every NatLamp cover since Issue #1, the Lore of the Firecracker, a Vietnam Veteran Simulation Kit, and parodies of Erica Jong, Richard Bach, and Joan Didion. Cover price: $1.50.
