National Lampoon. January 1971. Women. Would You Want Your Brother to Marry One?

The January 1971 issue of National Lampoon — the Women issue, a full Cosmopolitan parody. The cover depicts a giant blonde woman in a white dress straddling the Empire State Building above the New York City skyline, a gorilla tucked under her arm — King Kong inverted, the woman as the monster. The cover line reads: Special: Would You Want Your Brother to Marry One? Issue. Inside: a complete Cosmopolitan parody and Women’s Lib Quarterly. Cover price: 75 cents.

This is National Lampoon in its first year — nine months into the magazine’s existence, already operating at full satirical power. The Women’s Liberation Movement was at its peak cultural moment. The Lampoon went straight at it. The cover is one of the most recognizable of the early run.

Good vintage condition — some cover wear consistent with age. Individually bagged. One of a kind.
