The Cover
Three gorillas dressed as tourists pose in front of the Manhattan skyline — one in an “I ❤️ NY” t-shirt and baseball cap, one in a plaid skirt with a handbag, one in a yellow shirt with a camera around his neck. The Empire State Building rises behind them. It is a perfect joke about New York, about tourism, and about the kind of city that would make you feel like a gorilla just for visiting. About National Lampoon
National Lampoon (1970–1998) was the most influential American humor magazine of the 20th century — the training ground for John Belushi, Chevy Chase, Bill Murray, Harold Ramis, Gilda Radner, and the writers who created Saturday Night Live, Animal House, Caddyshack, and Vacation. Monthly issues in sealed condition are increasingly rare. This one is a time capsule from the winter of 1985.
