The August 1983 issue of National Lampoon. The cover places E.T. and Senator John Glenn side by side on a red background and poses the question: Remarkable Coincidences, or What? The parallel list runs down the cover — both came from outer space / went from earth to outer space; both have glowing smiles good on posters and lunch buckets; both cute, bald, bland, and bug-eyed. The joke is airtight. E.T. had been in theaters the previous year. Glenn was running for president. The timing was perfect.
