Joni Eareckson — “Old Salt” — Signed, Framed
Signed by the artist. Drawn with her mouth. That’s not a figure of speech.
“Old Salt” is a signed work by Joni Eareckson Tada — a portrait in pencil or charcoal of an old sailor or fisherman in profile, lighting a pipe, wearing a worn cap. The draftsmanship is precise and confident: tight crosshatching, careful attention to the planes of the face, the texture of the cap, the gesture of the hands cupped around the flame. Signed in the lower right. Framed in a warm wood frame with a gold mat, ready to hang.
About Joni Eareckson Tada
Joni Eareckson Tada was paralyzed from the shoulders down in a diving accident in 1967 at age 17. During her rehabilitation she taught herself to draw and paint holding the brush or pencil in her mouth. She went on to become one of the most recognized mouth artists in the world — her work exhibited internationally, her prints sold through galleries and Christian bookstores throughout the 1970s and 80s. She is also a bestselling author, radio host, and disability rights advocate. Her signed works are actively collected.
