This photograph was signed by Gordie Howe at Olympia Stadium in Detroit for an 8-year-old boy at the time — a personal encounter with one of the greatest players in the history of professional hockey. Howe played for the Red Wings from 1946 to 1971, winning four Stanley Cups and six Hart Trophies. Olympia Stadium, known as "The Old Red Barn," was demolished in 1987. The signatures Howe gave to young fans at the Olympia were not transactions — they were moments.
