An antique Remington cash register — oak cabinet with a deep, honest patina, two rows of brass amount keys running from 5¢ to $3.00, function keys for Cash, Paid Out, and No Sale, a glass display tower reading $3 — CASH, the Remington nameplate in gold script on the front panel, and a five-compartment wooden cash drawer that slides open on the original hardware. The receipt slot is present. The lock cylinder is on the right side panel.
Remington Rand entered the cash register market in the 1920s as a direct competitor to the National Cash Register Company, which had dominated the category for decades. These machines were built for the corner store, the diner, the hardware shop — the commercial infrastructure of mid-century American Main Street. The maximum transaction amount on this register is $3.85. That tells you exactly when it was made and what it was made for.
Good antique condition. All keys present. Glass display intact. Wooden drawer intact with five compartments. Surface wear and patina consistent with decades of commercial use. Sold as a display piece. One of a kind.
