A lacquered red tole bucket with an arched wooden handle — hand-painted with a large peony bouquet on the front face and a gilt decorative band of scrolling foliage running around the body. The red is deep and warm, the floral work is detailed and confident, and the overall form is generous: wide enough to hold magazines, a plant, kindling, or whatever a room needs to anchor a corner.

This style of painted tole ware draws from Japanese and Chinese export lacquerware traditions and was widely produced for the Western market through the mid-20th century. The piece is in very good condition — paint intact, handle solid, no significant wear.
