National Lampoon Magazine — December 1979 (Success Issue)
The December 1979 "Success Issue" of National Lampoon features one of the most visually elegant covers in the magazine's run: a richly rendered Art Deco illustration of a uniformed doorman bowing to pin a gold star on a kneeling man in a tuxedo, while a glamorous woman in a backless green gown strides ahead through a grand columned entrance, oblivious. The color palette — deep greens, golds, and blacks — is lush and deliberate.
The joke is in the composition: success as performance, as ceremony, as something that happens to you while someone more glamorous walks away. The Lampoon wrapping genuine social satire in the visual language of a 1920s hotel lobby.
Original subscriber copy with mailing label intact. Solid condition with light wear. A beautiful cover and a strong close to the 1970s run. Sold as-is.
