A large hand-painted regimental pride board for the 9th Infantry Regiment — “Manchu Raiders” — signed by Raymond A. Tarabusi and dated 1944. The front displays the full regimental crest: a five-pointed star encircled by a rope above a blue heraldic shield bearing a dragon (China), a sun (Philippines), a mountain chevron, and a teepee, with the regimental motto Keep Up the Fire on the scroll below. MANCHU runs vertically in bold red on the left. RAIDERS on the right. 9th Infantry and the artist’s name in script at the bottom.
A note taped to the back reads: Raymond A. — Still Alive as of 9-10-23 — 2nd Infantry Div. E.T.O. 1944 — 9th Infantry “Manchu” Regiment. As of September 2023, the man who painted this was still living.
The 9th Infantry Regiment is one of the oldest continuously serving regiments in the United States Army. The “Manchu” nickname was earned during the Boxer Rebellion in China in 1900. By 1944, the regiment was fighting across the European Theater as part of the 2nd Infantry Division — through Normandy, the Siegfried Line, the Battle of the Bulge, and into Germany. Raymond A. Tarabusi was there. He painted this himself.
Large format painted board. Good vintage condition with surface wear and age consistent with 80 years of existence. One of a kind. There is no other one.
