A large-format vintage promotional poster for Bob-Lo Island — the amusement park on Bois Blanc Island in the Detroit River, accessible by ferry from Woodward at the River. Six sailings daily. Moonlights at 9pm. The poster shows the ferry crossing the river, the roller coaster and Ferris wheel silhouetted against a deep blue sky, the whole thing rendered in the bold, flat graphic style of mid-century American leisure advertising.
Bob-Lo Island operated from 1898 to 1993. For generations of Detroit-area families, it was the summer. The ferry ride was part of it — you didn’t just go to the park, you went across the water to get there. The park closed in 1993. The island is now condominiums. This poster is what’s left of the original experience.
